Today, Friday 10th February, is a day that will go down in history. The centre piece of the new bridge being built on the River Wear is being raised. A group of children were taken to witness the process. The impressive 105m ‘A-frame’ was being slowly raised to a vertical position in the centre of the river. This will be twice as tall as Nelson’s Column and taller than Big Ben. It will take several hours to raise and we saw it at a 45 degree angle.
